New ‘Autumn Twilight’ series on wood and canvas

The setting sun tipped behind the horizon with a piercing light, quickly bringing the night shadows as dark clouds pushed up into the late evening sky.

I painted these after early evening walks and observing how quickly the twilight turned to night.

They are all on painted on different types of wood and canvas which give their unique texture, with softer brushstrokes and blended colours to reflect the quickly moving shadows at the end of the day.

I have concentrated on the focal point on the horizon where the sun is setting and the cool air is pulling down the clouds.
