My large stretched canvas acrylic paintings are primarily in an impressionist style but with the occasional abstract touch.

I use brushstrokes to build layer after layer of paint focusing on light, colour, shadows and texture to recreate the ethereal and evocative feel of the landscape.

As the layers blend I use sprays of water to keep the paint fluid to blend some more.

I enjoy painting vast skies with all the touches of light and all the shadows too, and then adding the finer details especially on the focal point which is often on the horizon.

Sometimes a certain brush really throws up some some interesting brushstrokes or works perfectly to achieve the blending.

Each of my large stretched canvas paintings has it’s own journey to a finish. Sometimes it can take a while and other times it goes in first time, but it is so satisfying when the white of the canvas starts to disappear and the painting comes to life.
