Seascape painting ‘Sea Storm’

This acrylic on paper seascape is 27 x 25.5 cms. titled “Sea Storm’ from a series of seascapes on paper.

Working on paper is a refreshing change as I tend to work faster on paper with more deliberate brushstrokes as there’s not really any room for mistakes and once it dries that’s it, unlike canvas where you have a chance to take the paint away. It has much more of an abstract feel to it and much simpler broad textured brushstrokes to create movement and atmosphere.

Although inland it was dry, the view out to sea was more turbulent with a strong wind whipping up both the clouds and the sea which swelled as it crashed in toward the coast.

Although seasonally it was quite warm the feeling out to sea was cold and unforgiving and distinctly unseasonal, which then crept into the shadows on the coastline.

Here are a few more seascapes painted in the same way and with the same feel and quite spontaneous.
