A selection of small paintings on paper

Here’s a selection of my works in acrylic on handmade paper.

They are an integral part of my working process giving me a chance to relax from painting large canvases. Some people read a book, some go for a run but I just put on my music, grab my larger brushes and start spontaneously putting brushstrokes down and follow the flow.

It is a very different way of painting to my large canvases which are less abstract and more blended. The freedom with these smaller works can be seen in the use of colour and the limited brushstrokes allowing an abstract impression of the landscape, sunrise, sunset or seascape.

They have an energy and flow but allow me to relax as they are smaller and quicker to do than a canvas that can takes days and weeks.

Sometimes they even kickstart an idea to create something in a large canvas or allow that relaxation needed when I hit a creative block with a bigger painting.

They can begin inspiration but they also creatively stand alone.
