A splash of colour, my new small spontaneous sunset painting - ‘Melancholy Sunset’.

This small abstract sunset is another favourite of mine. I think its the combination of how the colours work with the brushstrokes.

The colours are some of my favourites as I am always drawn to peach, burgundy and pink tones and in this painting the hint of yellow on the edge of the horizon. The mood is enhanced by the dark blue and purple sky and the use of a lot more pink. I intentionally gave the painting some texture which enhances the atmosphere and light particularly in the foreground. The brushstrokes of vivid blue and orange just add more atmosphere making the sky move, almost dance.
