Remembering the essence of the Surrey landscape with this new painting ‘Dew on the Downs’.

‘Dew on the Downs’ was painted in memory of my late father who loved the North Downs, especially Colley Hill.

I love the way that you can see for miles and the land gets blurred with the morning sky creating shimmering blue tones. That blue tinge to the landscape contrasts with the lighter reflections from the clouds. At this time of year when Winter is heading toward Spring the clouds almost sweep through the landscape in the bright cold air. Despite that, it is quite a restful and peaceful painting at a time of day my father would have loved.

I like the minimal blending and brushstrokes which give atmosphere in the broad Downs landscape.
