‘Windswept Moor’ one of my favourite abstract paintings.

‘Windswept Moor’

Acrylic on canvas - 29 x 28 cms

I intentionally added the slight touches of light green, turquoise and orange on the horizon as I think that was all that was needed to give atmosphere to ‘Windswept Moor’.

Creating the glow just above the horizon just seems to give the right amount of light to the painting in a minimal simplicity which was very satisfying.

I made those horizon colours reflect back the light from the sky into strokes of white and cream soft clouds.

I like that the overall effect is more abstract with less blending in order to convey the cold misty feel of the moor with heather in the distance, and a suggestion of bushes and trees in the rugged landscape.

I just love the way the layers of light work upward with fewer brushstrokes in the tones of the blue sky, and the shadows move on the landscape below.
