Sketchbook painting is usually for me when I have a palette of paint left over from a large canvas. I then do some quick studies on any paper I have available. This is a beautiful landscape painting ‘Sunset Shadows’.
It was painted after walking across the bridge over the River Thames at Kingston, and looking toward Hampton Court. The sunset was just appearing in the distance in between the trees.
The sky was still quite bright and still blue in parts but the first glimmer of the evening light was shimmering through.
The brushstrokes of yellow and orange just give enough of the impression of light on the horizon blending with the peachy tones. The stroke of bright orange just above the horizon and the lighter strokes of white giving the impression of clouds.
