I always like seeing my paintings in an interior setting so I can really tell if I’m happy and I feel that it is finished. I can then also imagine what it might look like in it’s new home once its been sold.

My smaller paintings in acrylic on paper and canvas are primarily in an abstract style but with the occasional impressionist touch.

I use much bolder deliberate brushstrokes to build up texture whilst still primarily focusing on light, colour and shadows to recreate the ethereal and evocative feel of the landscape.

As the layers blend I use sprays of water to keep the paint fluid to then blend some more.

My smaller paintings all still have that feel of ‘that one moment in time’ that I so enjoy trying to capture with the vastness of skies and touches of light and shadows. I then add the finer details especially on the focal point which is often on the horizon.

Sometimes a certain brush really throws up some some interesting brushstrokes or works perfectly to achieve the blending. I’m always experimenting with different brushes and playing with colour and tones.

Each of my smaller paintings have their own journey to get to a finish. Sometimes it can take a while and others go in first time, but it is so satisfying when the white of the canvas starts to disappear and the painting comes to life.
