This seascape abstract painting ‘Surf Clouds’ is one from my archive which has been sold.

I don’t paint a lot of seascapes but when I do they tend to be in my more abstract style with sweeps of colour to represent the movement and flow of the water and the sky above. I then add some finer brushstrokes for detail.

‘Surf Clouds’ is a perfect example of this with the touches of blue, white and turquoise on the horizon plus the big sweep of blue to give the impression of ‘looking out to sea’.

Surf Clouds Abstract Seascape Painting by Mary Burtenshaw

‘Surf Clouds’ 26 × 26 cms - acrylic on paper

It is painted on paper so I had to be a mix of deliberate and spontaneous with the brushstrokes as the paint dried so quickly. You just can’t work the same way as you would with canvas where you have time to blend or add colour.

I love the sky in ‘Surf Clouds’ where there are degrees of colour from light to dark contrasting with the vivid green and shadows in the foreground.

This painting would look perfect in any small space in the home or office.
