‘Ochre Sunset’

Acrylic on canvas - 22 x 22 cms

This painting ‘Ochre Sunset’ is another of my favourite abstract paintings. This just happened so naturally without the ‘journey’ that some paintings have. I really enjoyed painting in a slightly different colour palette with pinks and ochres (as per the title).

The small detail of red, yellow, orange and white on the horizon give a real focal point.

The bold brushstrokes of pink above the horizon were a final flourish to finish the painting with confidence.

The ochre tones in the sky were intentionally blended and then the pink pulled it all together.

Though the foreground is quite dark there are strokes of grey mistily coming down from the sky with the pink connecting both the sky and the land together.

Flecks of white give the impression of a glow on the horizon as the evening light starts to disappear.

All the colours separately on a palette might not seemingly work but it’s very satisfying when it all comes together.
