My new acrylic landscape painting ‘Twilight Echoes’

Twilight Echoes Small Abstract Painting in acrylic on paper by Mary Burtenshaw

‘Twilight Echoes’ - 20 × 18 cms - Acrylic on handmade paper

I intentionally made this small painting on paper more moody using darker tones in the sky.

I really like the touch of purple and the different pinky tones, especially in the sky.

The blend of purple, pink and burgundy in the foreground and the red on the horizon with the white glow gives that impression of twilight.

The unusual tones seem to work well together creating depth and shadow.

Even though this is a small painting I used very big brushes The bold brushstrokes combined with washes and blending work very well together.

The handmade paper is very absorbent even with acrylic paint, so like watercolour you have to work pretty fast as the paint dries almost immediately.
