Discover this little beauty….. ‘Sunset Calm’

Just the right size for any space……

This acrylic on canvas landscape is 22.5 x 21.0 cm. and entitled ‘Sunset Calm’.

It’s all in the name. This ‘calm’ spontaneous sunset just happened so naturally whilst I listened to some music and just chilled out in the moment.

The colours were left over from a recently finished larger canvas but they all came together to bring this little canvas to life. It feels quite serene and peaceful in the slightly limited palette and the way the colours work and the light falls.

The touches of orange and yellow emphasise the light on the horizon and the brushstrokes of light reflect from the clouds on to the ground, as the last light of day disappears.

I particularly like the texture in this painting and texture is quite a feature of my smaller abstract paintings.

The combination of atmosphere, light and texture and the green and rusty tones in the foreground really help to emphasise the sunset.

Experimenting with colour combinations has always interested me and it never ceases to surprise me what colours work well together when others don’t.
