‘Cold Sunset’, a stunning impressionist landscape painting capturing the last light of the day.
This impressionist landscape painting was inspired by a trip to the Yorkshire Moors whilst looking into family history. I really fell for the beautiful landscape and the colours of the heathers.
The sky had clouds of peachy pink slowly dancing on the horizon with softer ones higher in the sky creating a very moody feel, and that stillness just before sunset when light just fades on the ground.
I used a lot of blending with larger brushes to re-create the mood so it is quite impressionistic creating light and shadows in the colour.
‘Cold Sunset’ is still is still one of my favourites because it just happened without the ‘journey’ that sometimes happens with some paintings.
It is now sold to a private collector but it is still an inspiration to me as I recall painting those gorgeous sky tones whilst listening to music.
I often wonder how they framed it.
