Today’s landscape painting is ‘Summer Twilight’.

‘Summer Twilight’ - 22.5 × 22.5 cms - Acrylic on canvas

This is not one of my bright and vivid abstract landscapes as it’s more minimal in palette.

The deeper blue tones on either side draw the eye into the focal point on the horizon with a touch of white.

Abstract strokes of yellow, orange and red give the impression of twilight.

The different tones of blue in the sky and broader brushstrokes of slightly darker tones give the painting more depth.

I love the texture and the reflections of light.

The quite bold strokes of light green texture in amongst the more blended darker green tones give form and depth and shadow. Sometimes you can add so many different variations of similar tones and similar colours but it seems to work.

When does a painting work? A painting is only really finished based on your own judgement. You just have to take that leap and put your brushes down…….

‘Summer Twilight’ is 22.5 x 22.5 cms acrylic on canvas. It would work really well as a large canvas as these smaller paintings are often studies for larger works.
